On September 16, 1964, a petition was presented to Wilson County Judge D. Richard Voges requesting the incorporation of the proposed City of La Vernia. An election was held on October 3, 1964 and the measure did not pass. A second petition was submitted on February 1, 1966 again requesting the incorporation of the proposed City of La Vernia. An election was held on February 26, 1966 and the measure passed with 93 voters in favor of and 73 voters against.
